Morning Team Challenge

This morning we selected the teams for our series of Team Challenges that we do over the course of the year and competed in the traditional Plate Walk Challenge. It was the perfect example of never being out of it!!! The look in the eyes of the frosh, trying to evaluate how much it was going to hurt is always a favorite of mine. In the end Team 2 captained by Pat Butler was victorious in the annual kick-off to the Challenge Series!

Team 1: Michalik, Eisemann, Baker, Castaneda, Koenig, Kundzik, Liu, Nenashev, Owens, Robinson, Dave Erickson, Homerin

Team 2: Butler, Baskerville, Dansa, Rob Erickson, Greene, Murphy, Nieves, Achilles, Destree, Rowan, Welsh

I always enjoyed the sound of the plates spinning on the ground and your team wondering if it was one of your guys or the other team

Which team is named the Brosnan Brown Bombers!!!

Keep the tradition alive

Billy you always heard that sound because you were the one dropping them...CLANG CLANG Howard I think we called you.

Wasn't it Billy that could not lift a 45 lb plate off the floor upsidedown?

That is only somewhat true. I have never had any fast twitch muscles. Weird that I had the best reaction time on the team though!!

What exactly is a plate walk? Sounds like fun. We used to have to do vertical kicks in the deep end holding 25 pound plates over our heads. Garvin and I could usually be found 6 feet underwater during those sets.

You have to walk the downstairs hallways with two 45 lb plates, you hold them with your fingers on the rim and is a great forearm exercise.

Nothing beats seeing someone coming down the ROTC hallway and dropping the plate, then trying to lean it up against the wall only to drop it again. Meanwhile everyone is yelling at the person. So awesome!

That reaction time was a huge help for you Billy. Being the first off of the blocks in the 1650 really sets the tone for the entire race.

Aha.... Kevin had us using barrels filled with rice. It was a lot of fun and less noisy.
