Cuba Lake Challenge

The 4th installment of the Cuba Lake Challenge will be waged Saturday September 26th as part of Parents's Weekend. We will be leaving the Reilly Center to head out to the lake at 8:45am. This year we are having an Alumni Division. The race will begin from Cottage #333 (North Shore Rd., Cuba, NY) on Cuba Lake at 10:00am. Pictured is the hardware to be handed out to the top team participant and top alumni participant. The team has been anticipating the naming of the menu as Mr. Prizel is quite the cook and I was just informed that pulled pork and meatballs with a strawberry and spinach salad will be the fare this Saturday. The weather is looking to be sunny and 70 degrees and the weather has been cool so the screams when they hit the water should be loud enough to be heard across the lake. Some parents have been asking what to bring and the suggestions would be desserts and side dishes to pass. Hope to see many out here for this event!!

Brennan Changes Positions

Lance Brennan (Class of '94) has changed positions from Director of Compliance here at SBU to Director of Marketing and Promotions. Lance coached the women's swim program from 1999-2009 and after the 2008-2009 season made the transition over to the administrative side of the athletic department.

Morning Team Challenge

This morning we selected the teams for our series of Team Challenges that we do over the course of the year and competed in the traditional Plate Walk Challenge. It was the perfect example of never being out of it!!! The look in the eyes of the frosh, trying to evaluate how much it was going to hurt is always a favorite of mine. In the end Team 2 captained by Pat Butler was victorious in the annual kick-off to the Challenge Series!

Getting Back At It!!!

We began workouts this morning with our first lift and dryland of the season. Today is the second day of classes and we trying to get off on the right foot. We did have a few participants meeting at the various garbage cans around the Reilly Center this morning as part of the opening session festivities.

Cuba Lake Challenge 2009

This years annual Cuba Lake Challenge will be waged on September 26th out at Cottage #333 of Cuba Lake. The 4.7 mile run and roughly 900 yard swim has become a team tradition. This will be the fourth installment of the challenge and Kevin Murphy will try to defend his 2008 title. We have had some interest expressed by alums to participate and so we are extending the offer to them and are looking to develop an alumni division. Bobby and Tiffany Prizel will once again open their home to the program and graciously host a barbeque following the completion of the challenge.
