Alumni Weekend

Another enjoyable and entertaining Alumni Weekend has concluded. The weekend began on Friday night with a gathering at one of Oleans wateringholes that got the stories rolling. Saturday saw the annual softball game a relaxed affair with the alums proving again to be too much, with skewed rules and endless outs, for the current team. The afternoon bar-b-que served as an opportunity for the stories to really get rolling while enjoying a beautiful day that permitted everyone to get blisteringly sunburned. The cornhole court was owned by the coaches who went undefeated for the afternoon. The b-b-que also served as the canvass for the newest addition to the weekend, a challenge swim that was waged between Scott Jordan and Mariusz Michalik in a negotiated 400 breaststroke. Scott who is training regularly felt that he would be able to handle the 4 time A-10 200 breaststroke champ who had not touched the water since the 2010 A-10's. Vigorous betting set the stage for the benefit swim, to assist the program, and a sizable crowd got to witness the spectacle. Oosh led from start to finish and cranked out a 2:22, 200 split on his way to the easy victory. The group then headed into Allegany to relive their college days. Breakfast at the Hick, this morning, served as the conclusion of the weekend.

SBU Athletics Golf Outing

Canisius

5 pool records were the highlight of our meet at Canisius this evening. The 200 Medley Relay(Koenig, Murphy, Baker, Robinson), the 200 Free (Mike Dansa broke it in the event then Yi Liu broke it leading off the 800 free relay), 500 Free (Ethan Rowan), 3 Meter Dive (Mike Murphy) and the 800 Free Relay(Liu, Martin, Dansa, Rowan).

We had a solid contingent of alumni/parents in the crowd to watch the Bonnies come away from final exams to collect a 171-72 victory over an improving Canisius squad. Now it is a few days of putting their noses to the grindstone before sending them home for the Christmas Holiday.

Akron Zippy Invite

We are back from Akron with a piece of the tri-force that the team so covets!!! A 3rd place finish was the result with SBU actually edging out UB in the swimming portion of the meet by a mere 3 points!!! We did not bring our divers due to the unusual diving format that does not permit them much time to work so we opted to have them stay home and advance themselves through practice. Swimmer of the Meet for the Bonnies is Dawid Kundzik who had a fantastic weekend with a 20.87 in the 50 free (2nd place), winning the 100 fly in 49.93 and finishing 2nd in the 100 free with a time of 46.02 but also anchoring our 400 Free Relay with a blazing 44.74 to help the relay to a 2nd place finish with a very solid in-season time of 3:05.42. We learned a lot from this meet and now know the areas that need to be focused on in order to prepare for the A-10 Championships in February.
